Court Upholds Sentence In Shawnee Co. Murder

Jason Schaeffer

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Kansas Supreme Court has upheld the sentence in a Shawnee County murder case.

Jason Schaeffer pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery and a weapons violation for the 1993 carjacking and killing of 33-year-old Timothy Riley.

Schaeffer was sentenced to two life terms plus an additional 20 years to life. He appealed.

In a decision Friday, the High Court rejected his claims that the judge was biased and improperly considered a psychological evaluation in sentencing him.
