TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Shawnee County Commissioners want the community's input on the fate of the Abbott Community Center.

John Knight, Director of Parks and Recreation presented commissioners with proposals from two groups interested in overseeing or purchasing the facility.

The East Community Development Center Corporation, Inc., and the True Foundation Learning Center each told commissioners why they would be the best fit.

Both groups say their focus would be less on recreational activities and more on technical training and academic assistance.

"There are some great things going on at Avondale East and some great things going on at the Antioch Family Life Center. The things they're talking about doing here may have a more of a fit to that type of a setting and the recreation value we can still go in and partner with anyone of these two groups and still run our few recreation programs, Knight.

A community meeting will be scheduled in the next two weeks on the discussion.
