Council Members Earmark $5M To Support Downtown Revitalization

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Topeka city council members approved a budget, earmarking $5 million for downtown development Tuesday night.

Plans include developing Kansas Avenue from 7th to 9th and 8th from Quincy to Jackson. Greenspace, outdoor sculptures, outdoor dining, and a water display are just a few ideas developed by Capital District Project group members.

Two Topekans at the meeting, spoke out against council members earmarking the $5 million for development.

Organizers with the Capital District Project hope to raise $500,000 in private contributions for the project.

Project organizers hope to continue to gather public input and refine ideas.
