Despite Protest, Council Votes To Boost Development In SW Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Despite some residential protest, Topeka City Council members tonight gave the green light to a new commercial development in Southwest Topeka.

Council members voted 9 to 1 to approve the development called "Wranglers Ridge" and make significant changes to the 75 acre property along SW 17th and Urish.

Chad Manspeaker was the lone vote against.

Under the plan, John and Barbara Hoffer, owners of John Hoffer Chrysler and Jeep in Topeka, would develop the land with commercial, office and residential uses.

Because of a legal protest that made up more than 20% of the residents within a certain radius, 8 of the 10 members of the governing body needed to vote yes for the ordinance to pass.
