EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW-TV) -- After all the rain that came down Monday, flooding is a concern for areas to the south of Topeka.
The Cottonwood river is in a flood warning this week from Emporia west to Florence, according to our radio partner KVOE.
Lyon County Emergency Management told 13 News Tuesday they expect the river to be at moderate flood stage Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, putting water over Highway 99.
They also say that there's a lot of debris in the river because there hasn't been enough water to clean it out in a few years. They say that this could create problems with bridge supports. Officials are monitoring the situation.
Emergency Manager Rick Frevert says be safe, stay out of flood waters.
