Construction Work In Statehouse Garage Could Make Parking Tighter

Construction work in the new Statehouse garage could make parking a bit tighter over the next few weeks.

Starting November 9th, repair work begins on lighting and alarms on three of the entry and exit stairwells in the garage. To comply with fire codes during that time. Officials must reduce the number of parking stalls on each level by more than 200.

The Director of Administrative Services says, "Again we don't want to violate the fire code. We're shutting down a stairwell for about four weeks should be open back up December 4th or 5th. So again to the visiting public here for tours and attending meetings, it should be just wrinkle free. Should not notice anything."

Russell says the parking garage will still retain the 10 ADA spots for Kansans who need assistance.
