TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- A Kansas congresswoman is responding to a report questioning how she identifies herself as a CPA.

The Topeka Capital Journal reported that U.S. Representative Lynn Jenkins state permit to work as a certified public accountant expired nearly two years ago but the Kansas Republican continues using campaign materials with a CPA label.

The Topeka Capital Journal reports she uses CPA labels on political documents, postcards, emails and websites yet her congressional office said she doesn't currently engage in CPA duties.

Virginia Powell, Chairwoman of the Accountancy Board in 2011 told the Topeka Capital Journal that the CPA name is allowed if she used it as a title only.

Jenkins is running for re-election in the second district.

Tom Brandt a spokesman for Jenkins told 13 News "Congresswoman Jenkins has never claimed to be actively practicing public accountancy since her election to congress. Kansas law does allow the Congresswoman to call herself a CPA. Today's report that she allowed her permit to practice to expire is hardly breaking news."
