Confusion Cited In Wreck That Sent Vehicles Over Overpass

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - An accident report shows a driver's confusion played a role in an accident that sent two vehicles plummeting from a trailer off a highway overpass.

The Kansas Highway Patrol report blames speed for the August 28th accident on the overpass from southbound Highway 75 to Eastbound I-70.

According to the report, driver William O'Brien from Milford, Massachusetts told troopers he meant to get onto westbound I-70 and when he realized he'd taken the wrong ramp, it was too late. The report says he was going too fast, and slammed into a concrete barrier wall.

Two vehicles fell from O'Brien's trailer to the ground more than 30 feet below. One of them hit the mirror of a passing vehicle, but no one was hurt.
