MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - A new computer virus is making its way around Manhattan.
KMAN Radio reports the "Crypto Locker" virus has affected local businesses and people on K-State's campus.
A consultant told KMAN that people try to download an attachment and the virus gets to work encrypting the computer's files. The user is then presented with a screen demanding money within 72 hours or they will not be able to use those files.
Experts say you should never open an attachment you aren't expecting, and back-up files regularly.
The consultant believes the attack is global.
