TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Community leaders got to try their hand at being a firefighter Thursday.

The International Association of Firefighters is hosting the Kansas State Council of Firefighters Conference through Saturday.

Officials, like Topeka City Manager Jim Colson, suited up to participate in various activities including extrication, an EMS scenario, and live fire training.

The activities help give participants a real-life perspective of the firefighting profession.
