TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Dozens of volunteers got down and dirty to build the most unique playground in Topeka.

The Westar Green Team partnered with various local organizations along with the Boys and Girls Club to transform old telephone poles and equipment into a playground for the children.

The crew began at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. The playground will feature a large bridge, vegetable garden pots made from old pipes and monkey bars and more. Organizers believe the outdoor space will be both fun and educational.

Green Team Coordinator Ben Postlethwait said, "The goal is to give the kids a great area to play and learn. We really want to see kids running all over the place and working in the garden, playing on the equipment and taking a break to come learn as well as play. As environmental stewards, that's one of the most important things, which is to have fun as well as take care of the environment."
