TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Students, staff, and faculty of Jardine Middle School gathered to support a classmate recovering from unexpected surgery.

Last December eighth grader Devin Wolf was diagnosed with an atrial septal defect -- Devin had a hole in his heart.

The blood being pumped out of the hole was actually being pumped into his lungs.

On Thursday, members enjoyed a "sweetHEART of a deal" event to help Devin's family pay for the medical costs.

Attendees got to enjoy chili donated by Wendy's, and Topeka High's famous cinnamon rolls, all while participating in a silent auction and prize drawings.
