Commission Approves $150K In Maintenance Equipment For Golf Courses

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Local golf courses will soon be able to purchase some much needed maintenance equipment.

Shawnee County Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to spend $150,000 on the equipment -- including greens and tee mowers, leaf blowers, a sand spreader and bunker rake.

Golf Director Kerry Golden says the equipment is getting old and they risk having problems on some of the putting greens.

"If you've got a gasoline engine that's got a thousand hours on it, that's equivalent to about 100,000 miles as compared to on a vehicle, so with that being said, right now we've got two greens mowers that are basically a 300,000 mile vehicle," Golden said.

Golden said the county can typically get five to seven years out of each greens mower.
