Topeka Police Chief Ron Miller's Interim Replacement Revealed

A Topeka Deputy Police Chief will become the Interim Police Chief while the City looks for a replacement for Chief Ron Miller.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- A Topeka Deputy Police Chief will become the Interim Police Chief while the City looks for a replacement for Chief Ron Miller.

Tony Kirk will become Interim Police Chief on August 1st.

Kirk was chosen by City Manager Jim Colson.

President Barack Obama nominated Chief Ron Miller to serve as U.S. Marshall for Kansas. Miller must wait for confirmation from the Senate before he fulfills the position.

In a City Council meeting open to the public, Topekans said they want a Chief to be promoted from within and one that is familiar with the city.

Kirk was born and raised in Topeka. He graduated from Topeka High School. In the 80's he joined the Marine Corps and in 2001 he joined the Kansas Army National Guard.
