5-Year-Old Boy Struck By Vehicle In Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Emergency crews were called to 13th and Harrison Wednesday after a vehicle hit a boy who was getting off of a school bus.

The incident was reported around 5 p.m. Police say a car went around a school bus that had a stop sign extended.

The boy, 5, was taken to a local hospital for observation. Police say the boy was not believed to be seriously injured.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene. Police say she was cited for overtaking a school bus.

Officers remind people that, when a school bus is stopped with its lights flashing, drivers should stop a distance back and not proceed until the school bus turns off the flashing lights and proceeds first, to be sure no children are present.
