TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Nearly a year later, prosecutors have filed criminal charges in a car accident that killed a Shawnee Heights cross country runner.

Five teenagers were in a car that wrecked September 29, 2012, in the 4500 block of SE 101st St.

A passenger, 14-year-old Shawnee Heights High School freshman and cross country runner Cameron Johnson, was killed. Three other passengers, Hannah Daugherty, Matthew Randall and Brooke Ginter, all 14, were injured, two of them seriously.

The driver, Adam Erickson, who was 15-years old at the time, suffered minor injuries and, now, a year later, faces criminal charges.

Court records show that last week, Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor's office filed a charge of reckless involuntary manslaughter for Johnson's death, plus three counts of reckless aggravated battery - causing great bodily harm for the injured teens.

The DA also is charging Erickson with cultivating, distributing and possessing with intent to distribute a hallucinogenic drug. The complaint identifies the drug as marijuana and lists the amount between one pound and 66 pounds.

Erickson is charged in juvenile court. He'll appear before Judge Joseph Johnson on October 15th.

Under the complaint, the court also may consider unintentional involuntary manslaughter or reckless aggravated battery as alternatives to the reckless involuntary manslaughter count.

A 13 News review of Shawnee County District Court documents also shows Cameron Johnson's father,Mark, filed a judgment claim against Adam Erickson and his father, David. Johnson was awarded $100,000 from an insurance policy in a settlement entered on June 25th.
