TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A driver crashed into a north Topeka power line after reportedly swerving to miss a cat early Wednesday afternoon.

The driver said the cat bolted onto the road, forcing him to swerve. The cat then reversed course and jetted back, at which point he over-corrected and hit the pole.

Firefighters along with Westar and Sheriff's Deputies were called to the scene of the wreck, 2820 NW 25th Street, shortly after 2:00 p.m. after a witness told 911 the truck had caught fire. The caller also said the driver was already out of the truck and didn't need medical treatment.

There were several dozens of outages in the area still listed on the Westar website about an hour later with restore times ranging from 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Wednesday night. The site did not say if the outages are linked.
