DOUGLAS COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) -- A car accident claimed the life of one person in Douglas County Saturday night.
Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers say one person died on K-10 just north of I-70, ten miles west of Lawrence.
They say it happened around 8 p.m., when a GMC Envoy, driven by Robert K. Petro, 87, of Topeka, was heading south on K-10.
Troopers say Petro was turning left onto the Kansas Turnpike, when he struck a northbound Buick in the driver's-side door.
Troopers say the impact killed Mike E. Miner, 52, of Hiawatha.
A passenger of that vehicle, Kathy Miner, 58, was life-flighted to KU Med for her injuries.
Petro and his passenger, Barbara Petro, 87, were hospitalized for possible injuries as well.
Deputies blocked off K-10 northbound from Highway 40 to Interstate 70 while they worked the scene.
