Burglar Chased By Homeowners, Arrested In SE Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW/From Release) -- On Saturday October 5th, 2012 at about 9 p.m. officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 900 block of SE 10th. Maria Solis, 25, Topeka told police she came home with her husband Edil Castillo, 27, and her nephew Luis Munoz, 16, to find the back door open. They discovered an unknown Hispanic male inside their residence attempting to steal their television. Luis and Edil followed the burglar out of the residence.

Luis Munoz caught up to the burglar in a neighboring yard and was punched by the burglar before the burglar pulled a handgun and threatened him. Luis stopped following the burglar and went back to the residence. Edil continued following the burglar, while on the phone giving police a description and direction of travel.

At one point Edil confronted the burglar and he was also threatened with a handgun. Police arriving in the area located the suspect in the 1000 block of SE 10th. The suspect gave police a number of names before their investigation revealed his real identify as Tedfilo Gamez, 37 of Topeka.

Mr. Gamez was found to be in possession of illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia. No firearm was located on Mr. Gamez at the time of his arrest.
