TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- On Saturday, January 18, at 6 p.m., Brewster Place will be holding a gala dinner at the Topeka Country Club in honor of its 50th anniversary.

The dinner will include live music and a guest speaker, Dr. Harold Ivan Smith. Over 120 guests are expected to attend.

Brewster Place was originally thought up by Frances and Roy Engler, who took the idea to local Congregational churches in 1958. Four local churches were eventually granted a corporate charter for The Congregational Home.

Renamed after William Brewster, the Brewster Place was completed and accepted its first residents in 1964. Since then, it has had a series of executive directors that have grown and shaped Brewster Place into what it is today. After 1997, the Brewster Health Center, the Townhomes, Brewster at Home, and the Rehab Center were all added to the original Brewster Place.
