TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Brewster Place is turning 50 and they are celebrating with fun for everyone.
Local artists showcased their work Sunday afternoon in the Brewster Place main building's lobby.
Brewster Place has supported the arts since it's beginning, including work from former resident and former professor in Washburn University's art department., Avis Chitwood.
Organizers were thrilled to host the free event.
"This is our 50th anniversary and so we decided that we would have a 50th anniversary art show," said Jolene Kovarik, event coordinator. "And so I gathered everybody that would allow me to show their paintings and we really have some talented residents."
Art classes are also taught throughout the year for residents of Brewster Place.
