WICHITA, Kan. (WBJ) — Bombardier Inc., whose Learjet business is based in Wichita, is cutting jobs and restructuring into four segments as part of a plan to reduce costs.
The Wall Street Journal reports the Canadian firm will create new, separate segments for business aircraft, reporting to Eric Martel, and for commercial aircraft, reporting to Mike Arcamone. Guy Hachey, president and chief operating officer of Bombardier Aerospace, is retiring.
A third segment, transportation, will include rail manufacturing and technology and will continue to be led by Lutz Bertling.
Fourth is a new segment, aerostructures and engineering services. A leader for that segment hasn't been named.
Bombardier says it plans to reduce its total employment of 76,000 by 1,800 people.
