(KAKE)-- Investigators are trying to determine a cause of death after a body was found in a ditch in northeast Sedgwick County.

A man who was walking his dog made the discovery shortly before 7:30 this morning in the 8000 block of North Oliver just north of Kechi. The body was in a ditch on the east side of the road.

Lt. Dave Mattingly of the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office said the body is that of a black male in his early 20s, but it's too early to tell how he died. They are treating it as a suspicious death and Mattingly said it is likely a homicide.

So far, investigators have not identified the body and are asking for the public's help. If anyone has information regarding a missing person, they're asked to call Sheriff Investigations at (316) 660-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 267-2111.

Deputies and other investigators will have that stretch of Oliver shut down for several hours while they work to gather evidence.
