EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW/Emporia Gazette) - Emporia authorities are investigating what caused the death of a semi driver who veered off the road and brought down power lines.
It happened just after 6:30 pm Sunday. The Emporia Gazette reports 49-year old Verena Leitheiser, of Georgia, was westbound on 6th Street when her big rig left the road near the intersection with Whildin. The truck took down a telephone pole and had power lines draped over it.
Emergency crews waited 40 minutes for Westar crews to arrive and shut down the power so they could get to Leitheiser.
