TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The detour for the Highway 24 / North Topeka Boulevard project caused another traffic problem Tuesday.
A tractor-trailer rig got stuck trying to make the turn from Menninger Road onto North Kansas Avenue. That is the marked detour to get around the North Topeka Boulevard closure.
It was at least the fourth time a big rig's gotten stuck there since the detour began in early June.
Meantime, crews were set to complete demolition of the old Highway 24 bridge over North Topeka Boulevard late Tuesday. They began working on removing the bridge a week ago Monday. A Kansas Department of Transportation spokesperson said the process is tedious, hammering apart the concrete then cutting out old steel rebar.
The entire project to replace the bridge and rebuild the cloverleaf interchange will last through November.
