Shawnee County residents have recently reported false messages informing them that they would be arrested for missing jury duty unless they paid a fine.
Most were instructed they needed to purchase a "Green Dot" card from a local store and then bring it to a specified location where they will meet a representative to hand over the payment.
Actually, if a citizen fails to appear for jury duty, a post card would be sent with information on how to contact the Jury Coordinators Office.
Law enforcement and jury coordinators would not request money for jury related issues.
The Shawnee County Sheriff's office suggests if you need to verify jury status you can do so on line by clicking here, and then follow the Jury Duty Information link.
