TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Topeka woman was applauded Tuesday for all she has done for the community.
Topeka's Chapter of the American Businesswomen's Association chose Beth Fager as this year's Woman of Distinction.
Fager is involved with many organizations, and was the driving force behind the efforts to build the Topeka Performing Arts Center and restore the Great Overland Station.
Fager says the award was a great honor, made even more special by the fact that the recognition luncheon will help other women further their education. She says education is the basic foundation to a lifetime of learning.
One of Fager's three children, John, was among those who spoke at the event. He recalled childhood experiences with his family, which included helping his mother at activities like the Junior League's Next to New Sale. No matter how busy she was, though, John said, she always made time for her children and, even today, attends all of her grandchildren's event.
Fager's husband, Duane, who is President of CoreFirst Bank, also spoke. He admitted he has sometimes marveled at the seemingly impossible tasks his wife takes on, then marvels again at how she accomplishes them.
Money from the ABWA's luncheon goes to award scholarships to women studying at Washburn University.
