Barton County Commissioner Killed In Crop Duster Crash

Garfield, Kan. (KAKE) -- A Barton County commissioner has been killed in a crop duster crash.

Sheriff Scott King tells KAKE News that the accident happened shortly after 1 p.m. near Road G and 210 Avenue north of the town of Garfield.

The Great Bend Tribune has identified the pilot as Barton County commissioner Don Cates. Cates flew crop dusters for Farmers Spraying Service based in Pratt.

A person answering the phone with the company did not want to speak to the media. The Kansas Highway Patrol has taken over investigation of the crash and no other details have been released.
