Bake Sale Raises Money For Recovering Boy

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)__As medical bills stack up, family and friends of a young boy injured in a bicycle accident had a sweet idea of their own to help pitch in.

The Tunstall family held a bake sale at the Wal Mart along 1501 Wanamaker Road Sunday afternoon in hopes of raising money towards the cost of hospital care 12 year old Nicholas Tunstall needs after being hit by a pickup truck while riding is bicycle in north Topeka.

Nicholas suffered breaks to both his left and right collar bones, left and right pelvic bones and shattered growth plates in his right ankle.

Family members say they hope the money raised to help pay for surgeries will get Nicholas back to his normal self.

Sister Brittany Strayhorn said, "He's normally a real energetic kid and likes to be outside. It's real sad to see him stuck in the house all day. He's trying to stay positive because he sees all of us real sad but he is fighting through it. We need money for the surgeries so he can get better and so that's why we need to get this happening."

The bake sale managed to raise $690.15. Donation to an account fund in Nicholas Tunstall's name can be accepted at any Capital Federal Location.
