TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Marcus Seirer says that around 10:40 p.m. Thursday night the Shawnee County Sheriff's were advised of a two vehicle accident on Hwy. 75 near 62nd street, north to Topeka.
Seirer said a Toyota Corolla was heading East on 62nd when it attempted to cross the median of Hwy 75 and was hit in the drivers side by a Ford Escape traveling South on 75. Seirer confirmed that the female driver of the Corolla was deceased. The condition of the elderly woman driving the escape was not immediately available.
Seirer said the vehicle tags from the Toyota Corolla were from Atchison County and the driver of the Escape is from Shawnee County. The names of both drivers has not been released as of early Friday morning, but Seirer said the family of the deceased driver has been notified.
Seirer said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident and that both drivers were wearing seat belts.
