Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced four Topeka organizations were awarded grants totaling $160,000 for victims service programs.

TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) -- Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced four Topeka organizations were awarded grants totaling $160,000 for victims service programs.

The organizations that received funds are listed:

CASA of Shawnee County, Inc. - $16,500 to train CASA volunteers to work for abused and neglected children in foster care.

LifeHouse Advocacy Center - $26,000 for investigating and prosecuting child sexual assault cases and other cases in which kids were victims to crime.

YWCA Center for Safety and Empowerment - $65,000 for 24-hour supervision of the emergency shelter that helps people who have been sexually or domestically abused.

TFI Family Services, Inc. - $52,500 for quality supervised visitation and exchange services in the area.

The State Crime Victims Assistance Fund for Child Abuse and Neglect, the State Crime Victims Assistance Fund, the Protection from Abuse Fund and the State Child Exchange and Visitation Centers Fund all contributed the grant dollars. The victims services grant programs are funded by state general fund, marriage license fees, district court fines, penalties and forfeitures, county court costs and municipal court assessments.

The Attorney General's Office has awarded $2 million in grants to local and state crime victim assistance programs this year.
