Washburn Rural Seventh Grader In Critical Condition After Being Hit By Car

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- A 12-year-old girl remains in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle Monday, a spokesperson for the family said Friday.

Rylee R. Robinson was riding Southbound on the gravel along 5200 S. Topeka Blvd. when she was struck from behind by a 2008 black Kia Optima.

Robinson was taken to Stormont-Vail Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver, Rebecca Lynn Horting ,32, was traveling Southbound on S. Topeka Blvd. when her car collided with the bicycle. Horting was not injured during the crash and was wearing her seatbelt.

The accident area was being held as a crime scene Monday afternoon.

A close family friend, Lisa Pfannenstiel, said the family will not discuss Rylee's injuries or the recovery process, but told 13 News about her great personality.

"Good student, very intelligent, huge heart, would do anything for anybody and had a smile that would light up the room," Pfannenstiel said. "We have little improvements everyday. We're confident that Rylee's going to come out of this strong. She's a winner."

Pfannenstiel said the family is grateful for all the community's support and said Rylee would be amazed.

Rylee likes to play softball and hang out with her friends. Her softball team, along with her school, has joined in raising money for expenses.

"We appreciate everything everyone has done," Pfannenstiel said.

Donations for the family can be contributed at Quest Credit Union. The account is set up as "Recovering Rylee."
