TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A well-known youth organization will be taking over program at the Abbott Center. Shawnee Co. Commissioners approved a one-year deal with the Boys and Girls Club of Topeka.
The organization was among four groups who submitted proposals to the county.
Chief Professional Officer Dawn McWilliams said her goals are to meet the needs of middle and high school youth in East Topeka and to provide them with a safe place to learn and be the best citizens.
But she said it can't happen without the community's support.
"One of the pillars of the Boys and Girls Club is community collaboration," said McWilliams. "We will continue to work with those partners, they have an invested interest in those youth that will only deepen our impact and further our reach, in reaching those kids and we will continue those relationships with those individuals."
The Boys and Girls Club has asked the Parks and Rec Dept. to continue to provide upkeep for the Abbott Community Center.
