LENEXA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Fifteen year-old Nomei Velazquez was found safe on Wednesday, according to the Nacogdoches Co. Sheriff's Office. The Texas teen who was the focus of an AMBER Alert in Kansas on Tuesday was found in an motel room near the Texas Tech campus.

The suspect in her disappearance, 28 year-old Juan Fabian Arenas Delacruz, was arrested at a nearby job site shortly before Velazquez was found.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said it issued the alert in Kansas based on initial information indicating the teen's cell phone pinged in the Kansas City area.

On Tuesday morning, Special Agent Mark Malick said the KBI was notified the ping report was an error and the ping actually came from the Lubbock, Texas area.

He said there is no evidence the teen was ever in Kansas, so they cancelled the alert. The AMBER Alert remains in effect for Texas.
