TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A man hit by a BNSF train in South Topeka Thursday night was able to walk away from the incident.
Shawnee County Sheriff Herman Jones tells 13 News authorities were called just before 6:30 pm Thursday to the tracks off South Topeka Boulevard, between 49th and 57th streets.
The train's conductor told authorities the crew saw a man walking on the tracks. Authorities say the crew blew the horn to warn him, and when he didn't move, they hit the emergency brakes.
Authorities say the crew noticed injuries to the man's leg but he kept walking, eventually getting into a car.
The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office identified the man as 25-year-old Kristopher Wenberg of Topeka. They say he was treated at the hospital for cuts to his leg and shoulder.
Authorities say Wenberg told them he was wearing headphones and didn't hear the train.
