Topeka, Kan. (WIBW)_ Topeka police officers and school resource officers from Topeka and Seaman school districts prepared for a school shooting.
A drill happened on the grounds of the old Topeka State Hospital Thursday afternoon.
A TPD cadet played the role of a shooter and was "shot" in the mock drill.
Officials say it is critical they know how to respond, since most school shootings happen in under 10 minutes.
They also say the average age of a school shooter is 13 or 14.
In all, 25 officers and school resource officers were there. The officers also participated in classroom training. Another drill may take place in the future.
