MERIDEN, Kan. (AP) _ A two-vehicle crash that took the lives of two young girls in northeast Kansas has now killed their little sister as well.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that 4-year-old Madelynn Spencer of Meriden died Thursday at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

Her sisters, 8-year-old Katelynn Spencer and 5-year-old Alissa Spencer, died at the scene of Wednesday's crash in Meriden, about 12 miles north of Topeka.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said the girls were in an eastbound car driven by their 33-year-old mother when it failed to yield to a southbound SUV at an intersection. The SUV struck the car on the driver's side.

The mother was injured. The patrol said no one in the car was wearing a safety restraint.

Please get a clue. My parents loved me, my brothers, and my sister. We traveled all over the state not buckeled up. How many thousands/millions can say the same? How many rode in the back of pickups? Rode beside dad on the tracktor, or on a hay ride? Would you have felt dad killed you if something happened? Would you want dad to go to jail for homicide? Yes, it is the law to have a child in restraints. Though what justice is severed by causing more pain? It's sad to see so many loose sight of their humanity, over more yeas, than nays.

I agree. This mother is going through so much already. And I don't know if it is true or not but the word is that the girls were playing around clicking and unclicking there belts. The mother then told them to sit still that they were only a mile from home and that is when they were hit. So maybe, just maybe, the mother wasn't AS responsible. Have a heart. This mother will live with this for the rest of her life. Don't make her feel worse than she certainly already does!

although it is such a horrible thing that has happened, i think this mother should go to jail for careless driving, neglect, child endangerment, and 3 counts of homicide. how can you drive your car knowing that your 3 young children are not buckled in and then just pull out in front of someone. i understand that she is going to live the rest of her life with the guilt of killing her 3 children, but the law needs to be involved also. just because you lose someone, doesn't mean you should be able to get away with it. my thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and loved ones.
