Hybrid cars are taking over the roads and now the state is getting in on the action.

The state of Kansas now has five Priuses hybrid cars that state employees can rent when they go on state trips.

It is all part of an executive directive that requires the states vehicle rental fleet contractor enterprise to increase the miles per gallon rating by 10 percent in 2010.

Something the governor enacted in 2003 when she cut the states motor pool and the state is defiantly seeing the payoff.

The rental rate for the hybrids is forty dollars a day.
