Labor organizers seeking a higher minimum wage are focusing their efforts on Wichita.
They want the city to pass a minimum wage ordinance.
Their ``Raise the Wage, Wichita'' campaign kicked off during the Labor
Day weekend.
The ordinance would be the first in Kansas. And it would put Wichita in the company of only a handful of cities with similar laws.
The minimum wage in Kansas is $2.65 an hour.
It's stayed the same for 20 years and has fallen to the lowest in the nation.
Labor organizers, for years, have failed to get Kansas lawmakers to support a minimum wage increase.
Lawmakers are concerned about the effect the increase could have on small businesses.
San Francisco and Washington, D.C. are among the cities with
minimum wage laws.
