WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A Kansas woman has been sentenced to more
than nine years in prison for the beating death of her 3-month-old
son in the infant's hospital room.
Megan Mott of Great Bend told a judge Thursday she had been
reckless with little Robbie Cox but felt she deserved probation.
But Sedgwick County District Judge Anthony Powell called the
death an ``atrocity'' and imposed a sentence of 109 months. KAKE-TV
reports the judge said probation would send a message that the
baby's death didn't matter.
Mott pleaded guilty earlier to second-degree murder in her son's
February 2008 death in his room at Wesley Medical Center. The
infant had been hospitalized for several months with a respiratory
virus.
Hospital staff found the baby in his crib with three skull fractures.
