WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ With Sedgwick County turning down expanded gambling, Sumner County has the exclusive franchise for a resort-style casino in south-central Kansas.
Janis Hellard of the Sumner County Economic Development Commission says four developers are working on proposals and more have expressed interest. She says the most likely location is near one of the three Kansas Turnpike interchanges in the county.
The new gambling law created four casino zones, including one in
south-central Kansas that includes Sumner and Sedgwick counties.
Sedgwick County was the favorite because it includes Wichita, but
voters rejected it. The law requires voter approval in counties where there will be expanded gambling, and Sedgwick was the only county that rejected it.
