Cities Snag Support In Google Fiber Polls

Topeka (WIBW) - Lots of polls are popping up on the internet asking who should land the Google fiber experiment.

One website, www.googlefiber.com, asks, "Who deserves Google fiber the most?"

Greenville, SC was in the lead Friday afternoon with 45 percent. Topeka was in second with 28 percent, ahead of Asheville, NC's 20 percent. However, Topeka hadn't even broken the top five Thursday.

People may cast their votes on the site each day through May 6.

Topeka fared better in an MSNBC poll. Topeka led Friday with 86 percent, while Bellingham, Washington had 7.5 percent. No other community had greater than 2 percent.

Google has said it will select at least one community by the end of the year to install ultra high-speed fiber optic internet connection.
