WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Abundant moisture this year is making the prospects for fall crops bright. The latest crop update from the Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service points to a good harvest when crops mature in a few weeks.
The agency rates corn condition 13% excellent and 58% good, with 21% rated fair. Just eight percent is in the poor to very poor category.
Jere White of the Kansas Corn Growers Association says he says he expects the state to bring in more than 400 million bushels of corn this year.
If that happens, it means more corn will be harvested in Kansas than wheat. The last wheat estimate was for a crop of just over 300 million bushels.
The heavy rain this spring that was a problem for the wheat harvest is expected to help fall crops.
