FORT RILEY, Kan. (WIBW) -- More army soldiers will soon be leaving for Kuwait.
Three hundred and fifty men and women from the 1st Sustainment Brigade at Fort Riley were honored in a deployment ceremony Monday afternoon.
Not the first deployment for many. In fact, it's the third for Jackie Thomas' husband.
"This is the hardest part now, leading up to it. But once he's gone you get into the routine of things and you know we just go from there," said Jackie.
Eugene's been in the army for 27 years, but Jackie and her daughter say it never gets any easier.
"I'm not really that happy about it. It's not really a happy moment," said daughter Alayia.
These soldiers will provide logistical support and man behind the scenes jobs in the global war on terror.
"Not only the soldiers, the resiliency of the soldiers, but the resiliency of the families too that continue to go through these deployments it just makes you very proud," Col. Flem Walker, Commander, 1st Sustainment Brigade, said.
Sitting among the soldiers' families and friends today was the Kansas State Woman's basketball team. They were there to celebrate their year-long partnership with the 1st Sustainment Brigade.
"It's a really neat experience that we have to share in common philosophies and yet they have such a greater duty and such a greater sacrifice," said Deb Patterson, K-State Women's Basketball Coach.
Eugene Thomas says he'll miss his family, but he's not worried.
"She knows dad has a job to do and she's got a job to do. She's going to school. She'll take care of her end and I'll take care of my end and we'll come back and be a happy family again," said CSM Eugene Thomas, 1st Sustainment Brigade.
The soldiers will take off in about two weeks. They will spend 12 months in Kuwait.
