Topeka (WIBW) - Kansas courts workers will be forced to take a furlough.
Supreme Court Justice Lawton Nuss announced Friday that the state's court system will be close for four Fridays, April 9th, 16th, and 23rd and May 7th.
Nonjudicial staff will take involuntary unpaid leave on those days.
“This is another unfortunate example of how our state budget crisis is affecting real people, including dedicated public servants," Gov. Mark Parkinson said in a statement. "The judicial branch plays a critical role in protecting the public safety of Kansans and ensuring citizens receive their right for speedy justice. That’s why I continue to hope that the legislature and I can work together to find the necessary revenue that will properly fund these important services and put Kansas back on track.”
State budget problems forced the action. The Courts previously outlined a contingency plan that called for up to 30 days of furloughs.
Nuss says previous cost-cutting measures have reduced the need for furloughs. For example, the Courts have been on a hiring freeze since December 2008, with more than 100 vacant positions right now.

I believe this would be a good time to Reveal the "TOTAL" Lottery Winnings from each game AND Scratch-Off Cards(and the % DIVISION of Monies derived thereof. I's sure this should be no problem as there is a running count tabulated each week. Then (and this is just because I'm such a Picky Mother - I'd like Our Current DIVISION % of Monies to be compared to that Original Law. You see, I've been told that the "Treasury of the Kansas Lottery System" has been systematically raided during the Bush years to the point that - THE SYSTEM ITSELF IS JUST KEPT AFLOAT FROM MONTH TO MONTH BECAUSE SINCE ABOUT 1990 IT'S BEEN SECRETLY-OPENLY LOOTED.
Keep giving all of them pay raises, that will help out a lot.
