Topeka, Kan. (WIBW)_ Shawnee County residents flooded into an "open house" type event to find out how they will be impacted by changes to the county's flood map on Wednesday. The event took place at the Holiday Building in Topeka.
The map had not been updated in some time and FEMA says the changes will better reflect flood risk. The new map will require 43-hundred more parcels to get flood insurance, which could cost between $300 and $3,000 a year.
Homeowners are concerned about paying for the insurance and that the flood map changes will increase the value of their property.
This was the last of three public meetings about the changes.
