Topeka, Kansas (WIBW) - Smaller school districts worried about forced consolidation got at least a reprieve from the Kansas house Tuesday.
House members debated a bill that would reduce state funding to districts with fewer than 400 students and covering 200 square miles or less.
The House passed an amendment that basically kills the forced consolidation aspect of house bill 2704.
Kansas house members debated the bill that is designed to force districts with enrollments of fewer then 400 students and fewer than 200 square miles to consolidate.....
For now....forced consolidation won't happen unless the senate makes it a deal breaker in a senate bill.
The house bill is set to be debated Wednesday in the senate.
