TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Mayor Bill Bunten will issue a proclamation for Topeka, Kansas to be known as "Google, Kansas, the Capital City of Fiber" for the month of March. (VIDEO INCLUDED)

It's a way city officials are helping promote the capital city against our competitors also vying for Google's attention, including Grand Rapids, Michigan and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Bunten says the proclamation is just for fun. He says he hopes it will encourage Topekans to support continuing efforts in the race.

Meanwhile Shawnee County is conducting an online survey to determine interest in Google's high speed internet service.

The service would bring internet between 100 and 1,000 times faster than speeds currently offered in our area.
