Overnight Fire Destroys Topeka Home
Topeka fire crews responded early Tuesday morning to a fire near 12th and Southeast Monroe. Crews were called just before 3 a.m. to what was referred to as a "fully engulfed" structure fire. 13 News crews on scene report that the structure appeared to be a home.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Topeka fire crews responded early Tuesday morning to a fire near in the 1200 block of Southeast Monroe.
Crews were called just before 3 a.m. to what was referred to as a "fully engulfed" structure fire. When they arrived they found a home completely engulfed in flames.
Official say one occupant, a woman, was home at the time of the blaze. She escaped without injury.
Authorities haven't released an official cause of the fire but the occupant told them she had been baking cookies just before it started.
The home is considered a total loss.
Scanner traffic indicated that live power lines near the home were down. Westar crews were called. Police dispatchers were also contacting the American Red Cross to assist on scene.
