Topeka (WIBW) - The wife of a Topekan being held in Haiti has a new outlet for support.
Marta Culberth created a Facebook page Monday. "Bring Drew Culberth Home" already has more than 650 members. Many are sharing their stories of Drew Culberth.
Culberth and nine other Americans are charged with kidnapping. They were stopped trying to take 33 children to an orphanage in the Dominican Republic.
Their new lawyer said Monday he has proof the group had permission to take the children.
Four of the groups members appeared before a Haitian judge Monday. CBS News footage showed Culberth among the four. The rest of the group is set to appear Tuesday.
Culberth is a Topeka firefighter and an assistant youth minister at Bethel Baptist Church. His 35th birthday was Saturday.
Marta Culberth told 13 News last week that she had not heard from her husband since he left and, in a statement released Monday said, that hasn't changed.
"Drew is a caring man and anyone who knows him knows that he will drop just about anything to help someone in need," she wrote. "That is why he volunteered (at the last minute) to go on this short-term mission trip with his brother-in-law and nephew (both also among those detained in Haiti)."
Marta Culberth says her husband felt his emergency medical training would be helpful as the group cared for children impacted by the earthquake.
"I know he is innocent of these charges," she said. "Our kids want their Daddy back. I want my husband back. We want our family back. I am hoping and praying for a positive, quick resolution to this misunderstanding with the Haitian government."
